Together Control Center 5.5 adds J2EE, Web service integration

Having used TogetherSoft for about two years now, I've been especially pleased with its ability to re-engineer software. In my mind the coordination between Java code and UML diagram is highly important. In the re-engineering world, it's where "the code meets the road." It's also something TogetherSoft products are very good at. Since its first introduction, Together has continued to add features like XMI integration and wizards for EJB generation.

But Together Control Center 5.5 promises to raise forward engineering to a new level. Today, with its Together Control Center 5.5 announcement, TogetherSoft has added tools for Web services, J2EE integration, JSPs, and XML - plus tool support for essential development utiilities like Ant for builds, JProbe for testing, XP Testing support.

In J2EE, specifically, Together now supports ATG Dynamo, JBoss 2.0, JSPs, HTML and Tag browsing, and EJB 2.0. It also integrates Web services from WebLogic 6.1, Tomcat and Apache SOAP. And for entity relational modeling TCC 5.5 now adds integration with Oracle 9i. Add to this XML structure editing and XSD and DTD plus cross-language support: C++, IDL, VB.Net and C#, and this is a vast territory for what basically used to be a UML tool.

Together(r) ControlCenter(tm) 5.5 is now available for download.

This new version has major enhancements and new features, including:

1. Web Services:

• Deploy any Java class as a web service with new Expert (Tools menu)
• Apache-SOAP and WebLogic 6.1 Beta currently supported
• SOAP support for Tomcat server bundled with Tomcat installation in product installation

2. J2EE(tm):

• Module import: reverse engineer JAR, WAR, EAR files.
• Business Tier patterns: Business Delegate, Value Object, Session Facade, Composite Entity, Value Object Assembler, Business Object Strategy, Value List Handler, Service Locator
• Presentation Tier patterns: Front Controller, View Helper, Composite View, Service to Worker, Dispatcher View
• Integration Tier patterns: Data Access Object, Service Activator
• ATG Dynamo integration: Includes J2EE deployment, Dynamo diagrams, and mapping. Available for Windows and Solaris.
• JBoss 2.0 integration: Provides EJB(tm)deployment.

3. XML Support:

• New import/export support for XSD (XML schemas)
• Import and export Class diagram to/from DTD (formerly export only)
• Import and export Entity Relationship diagram to/from DTD (formerly export only)

4. JSPs: creation of Taglibs
5. Activatable Modules (ones you can turn on, if you choose to):

• E-Commerce
• ANT support
• JProbe integration
• XP Test support
• Oracle 9i Early Access (limited) support. Export UML Classes to Oracle 9i types, import Oracle9i types to Classes, and convert Java classes to SQLJ

6. Visual Basic(r) .NET(tm)

• Background: System integrators and some clients have asked us to expand the TCC platform, so they can develop and maintain apps for J2EE, VB .NET, and other enterprise-development infrastructures.
