New user interface
The most obvious change is the new front end design. Brand new icons with a crisp new look and feel, combined with good handling and thought through navigation make it a real joy to use.

Zoom
The new zoom and a bird-eye overview also add much value in usability. If you are using Java 1.4 you can zoom in and out using the mouse wheel (keep Ctrl pressed).

Usability
Usability was the main focus of this release. You will notice this in many places. But you might want to give special attention to the navigation pane and the sequence diagram. The navigation pane has gone through a big overhaul. It now really shows the value of model-oriented tools over mere drawing tools.

But also in other places is usability improved. For example the coloring of model elements from the style panel now is very elegant. You can select from a palette or color multiple selections at a time. Hide compartments or different method types (i.e. getter/setter or private). The UI language (as well as the look and feel) can be selected and changed at runtime. Changing the namespace for diagrams and model elements is now fully implemented. Existing features like printing and round-trip are further improved.

Sequence diagram
In the sequence diagram you can now select actions from the set of available methods of the according class. They are also synchronized if a method name is changed. You can even define the values of parameters.

.mdl-import
Another important feature is the import of Rational Rose files (.mdl). It gives you the freedom to choose the tool you like over the one you are tied to (available in the Professional Edition).

Seminars
We are offering a special UML seminar series for this fall. We have a long history in leading in-house seminars. In addition, we are now offering public seminars, available to individuals or small groups. Find out more at
http://www.gentleware.com/services/seminars.php3. We also offer coaching and training as well as custom-tailored versions of Poseidon.

Public events
If you want to meet us in person, we will be presenting Poseidon at the UML 2002 conference in Dresden, September 30 to October 4, and the NET.ObjectDays 2002 in Erfurth, October 7 to 10.

Best regards,
