RedWood Shores - the journey begins

The first stop on our IDE adventure will be Redwood Shores, California. It's a short drive to Redwood Shores, along Highway 101, past the SFO airport and San Mateo. About 20 miles later, just past San Mateo, we reach the Belmont off ramp. Exit here and take the "East" ramp that crosses over the freeway.

Establishing Base Camp

Redwood Shores, San Mateo, and Burlingame form a kind of "Silicon Valley North" with many high tech businesses. Astronaut Edwin Aldrin poses for photograph beside deployed U.S. flagRedwood Shores itself is of course the home of Oracle Corporation. In fact, Highway 101 at this juncture is what Bay Area motorists have come to know as "The Oracle Mile" denoting the famous rush hour traffic backup that results when all the businesses let out for the evening.

But there's no traffic backup today - at least not for us. No SUVs ahead of us as we make our way to the Oracle9i JDeveloper download area. JDeveloper will be our first IDE. To obtain JDeveloper, go to the the JDeveloper download area, you'll need to first join the Oracle Technology Network - if you aren't a member yet.

Then click on:Oracle Software Downloads

And select Oracle9i JDeveloper

Follow the instructions to install Oracle9i JDeveloper. The journey to Redwood Shores was fairly uneventful. But our exploration of JDeveloper will be anything but. We'll be spending some time exploring JDeveloper and doing quite a few things with it.
